The Port of New York and New Jersey Shut Down by ILA Work Stoppage

A work stoppage that started yesterday has prevented cargo from moving in and out of all terminals at the Port of New York and New Jersey. This is a movement by the longshoremen from Philadelphia. They are protesting the pending move by Del Monte Fresh Produce who had been utilizing an ILA terminal in Camden N.J., to use of a non-ILA terminal in Gloucester N.J. It is believed such a move will cost the union up to 200 jobs. As a result, the longshoremen at all the other major facilities will not cross picket lines as a result.
